Cats

Didn't end up going out tonight-- decided to stay at home with the cats and watch a Netflix movie instead.

Yes, we have cats. Three of them. How stereotypical, huh? But, that's where the stereotype ends. We do not drink tea. We did not do a "U-Haul"-type move-in. We actually go out -- maybe not tonight, but we are definitely not "knitting."

Anyway... back to the cats. All three of them are girls. I think they are lesbians. All three of them. They fight, but then they lay around licking each other. Then they fight again. But the final proof came today -- a boy cat came in the yard and they quickly chased him off. They mercilessly cornered him and attacked, and he barely escaped, completely emasculated.

They high-fived each other. Now they are ignoring each other again. I'm sure they'll argue again later. Perhaps I'll make them some tea.

And the oldest one -- she's about 17 -- she is one tough old dyke. The almost peeled the flesh off my bones when I tried to give her medicine. I didn't know she had so much fight left in her! She laughed at my offer of tea and told me she wants a motorcycle. And a wallet on a chain.

So many things to do...

Oh, where should we go tonight? I have some friends going to Bait at MJ's in Silverlake, while others want to go to East/West tonight. Then, of course, there's always Here Lounge in West Hollywood, too.

Finally! We have a dilemma on Thursdays! I love it! And the choices are all good!

And yet, I'm feeling like I don't want to drag my butt out of the Westside... and my girlfriend suggested going to the stereotypical Westside lezzie hang-out -- no, not REI -- the Santa Monica Pier. Don't believe me? Haven't you ever seen the short "L.A. Dolls" at Outfest? Oh, it's hysterical -- here's the synopsis on AfterEllen.com:
http://www.afterellen.com/archive/ellen/Movies/2006/6/shorts.html

Hmmm... back to tonight ... what to do, what to do?

One more thing...

This summary is not available. Please click here to view the post.

WTF?

I don't know what happened to my last post. It just... disappeared. Well, it was mostly just gushing about the fabulous new East Side ladies' night, BAIT at MJ's on Hyperion. Really, really fun -- great crowd, too.
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

That and a recap of the drunken splendor at Single de Mayo... if I remember correctly.

Well, no matter... that is past and so much happens all the time that it's hard to keep up.

So... O Bar on Tuesdays -- still a nice place to go with your friends for a cocktail, but it's not as rockin' as it used to be. I'm kind of glad, though. At least now you can walk around and talk to people without having to worry whether or not someone will be set on fire by all of the low candles positioned right behind the bar where people stand.

This weekend is Pride in the LBC -- that's Long Beach for those who don't know. I always like this one -- it's big, it's by the beach, it's friendly.

M.S.I.A -- Missing, Still In Action!

DENVER! Rocky Mountain High!

Okay, so it's not L.A., but some of you travel from time to time, and it's sometimes difficult to find cool places to hang out while you are in other cities.

Cool place to stay:
The Curtis Hotel -- they have a childhood theme going on that is just adorable! The elevator announces what floor you are on: "Second Floor... Peek-a-Boo!," "Third Floor... Marco!... Polo!" and it's all in kids' voices, complete with giggles. The lobby is filled with toys and games... you just have to see it! AND, it's in Downtown, which, unlike L.A., is a real Downtown, with cool shops, cool places to eat, and really great architecture. Plus, the ratio of ordinary people vs. crack heads is MUCH more favorable than in Downtown L.A.

Recreation:
It's the Rockies. If you can't figure it out, you're beyond my help. Stop reading this blog.

The Nightlife:

Detour, which is near Downtown, seems to be the lesbian watering hole of note. It's a comfortable dive bar with pool tables and friendly bartenders, and there is a juke box. Unfortunately, the night we went, a weeknight, the juke was blasting heavy metal and the only other people there were a girl who was chewing tobacco and her girlfriend, who was actually making out with her. Euuuwwwww..... sharing chaw... eeeuuuuwwww... Hurrrgh... I'll never get that out of my mind. But then, like I said before... It's the Rockies. My friends ASSURE me that the weekends are much more happenin'.

Juicy at The Roxy (on 26th and some street that starts with a "W"... there is a light rail stop there and it's in the "five points" district). This club takes place on Saturdays and it was FUN! The drinks are cheap by L.A. standards and the music was good -- a bit poorly mixed, but good. We danced a bit and had a great time. The crowd here was pretty hip... I'd say about 75 to 80 percent of the girls could transplant into L.A. seamlessly. But... again... It's the Rockies. Some of the ladies had... um... interesting hair. And shoes. And "mom" jeans with polos. Imagine an Oxwood Inn crowd trying to mix with a Truck Stop crowd and you get the picture. And, I've never seen this in L.A..... but I suppose it could happen... I'm waiting in line for the bathroom, a girl emerges from a stall, chatting on her cell phone, I walk into the stall and... Eeeeuuuuuwwwww..... don't you check for floaters before you leave a stall? And don't you normally try to save that for HOME? And was she on the phone while she was.... ?????

Incidentally, I did go to an art show while I was there -- won't mention it too much since it's not a recurring thing, but it was very cool -- burlesque dancers, artwork all around this really cool old theater and a really good DJ. My friends are artists and had some pieces in the show and even sold some! Yay! Here's the plug: http://www.tcrossstudios.com Denver does have quite a cultural side, I must say!

I did have a blast in Denver, but I'm glad to be back in L.A. Poker tonight for me! Tomorrow night: APO! Oh, and don't forget to get your tickets for Women's Night on April 28!

Poker Night!

Love it! Play it every Monday! So, sorry, you're on your own on Mondays... I have no idea about anything else in the outside world... it's POKER NIGHT! Please feel free to post any going out ideas in comments. If it's really good, I might even skip poker. Um... nah... on second thought, no.

Tonight we head to A.P.O. -- Authorized P (ersonnel? eople? ussies?) Only! It's kinda secret, so I won't spill where it is... but it's in West Hollywood at an establishment on Santa Monica Blvd., if you care to try to find it. ;-)

Easter Brunch & Bonnets!

There is a certain club promoter ... let's call her "Lovely," who is just that... lovely inside and out. Not only does she know how to throw a great party on a large scale, she knows how to entertain and delight at small, intimate gatherings as well. Easter Brunch was amazing... I can't imagine how much time and effort she put into this spread, but it was much appreciated. And the bonnet-making was too much fun.

The list:
1) Mojitos are great for breakfast! Lots of Vitamin C.

2) What is it with Peeps? Why DO they bring out the pervert in everyone?

3) At any lesbian/gay event, the talk almost always turns to pets. Camera phones make it easy to share the cuteness!

Lisa's Birthday Party

Happy birthday, LISA!

Drunken debauchery ... a good time was had by all. The party was in a lovely home in Santa Monica, complete with a large patio for the smokers and friends-of-smokers. And, I must say, the apple cake was surprisingly delicious! Mmmmm!

The Lezzie List:
1) Brass in Pocket by the Pretenders - play this for an instant party pick-up. EVERYONE sings along. Overheard from a gay boy: "Oh, my god. I'm scared." I said, "Don't worry, they don't bite." He said, "Those girls? I bet they DO bite!" I said, "But only if you're lucky." Point. Match. Don't try to out-fag this girl!

2) Pant vapor - something you need to worry about when passing gas. Apparently, some lingers in the pants. Don't be fooled into thinking the danger has passed until you are absolutely sure you have no lingering pant vapors. (No gas was passed at the party as far as I know... it just happened to come up in polite conversation.)

3) Fun with Peeps! Peeps enjoy being the stars of impromptu videos. Put them in a gay boy's butt crack or a lezzie's cleavage and watch the fun begin! Peep Peep! Link to video coming soon.

HAPPY EASTER to all of you who celebrate this holiday or at least partake in the chocolatey goodness that is served up.

It's Saturday Night!

Woe to us... we can lament the lack of cool places for lesbians on Saturdays all we want, and the fact remains that there is not much for us to do. Bar Sinister at Bordner's in Hollywood is gay-friendly in a fetish-y kind of way, but I'd recommend bringing a group so you can have fun with your friends without getting too annoyed by straight-guys-pretending-to-be-Goths-by-wearing-black-jeans hitting on you.

But I digress.

Again, I recommend the Normandie Room if you must go out and have a drink with "family." Yes, you can go to the Abbey, but only if you don't mind waiting for 40 minutes to get a $14 drink that someone's going to spill on you right away anyway.

Smart girls go to private parties on Saturdays, or to the movies or out of town or something. Save it up for Sunday.

Yes, I know... the L Word at Falcon is over (can't WAIT for next season), but there's always the Abbey, which is fantastic on Sundays! But, get there early, as in during the day, that's when most of the girls show up.

Friday, April 6

Okay, so I didn't go out last night, I went to a networking thing for work instead. Free wine! Since I was tired from the schmoozing, and the wine, I just went home.

TONIGHT:

Truck Stop at Here Lounge on Robertson -- If you've never been, just let me say it's HOT, HOT, HOT!!! The bartenders mix up wickedly good drinks, then jump on the bar and shake their booties in your face to the sounds of Pop, Glam Rock and '80s! And Sweet Jesus - for the last dance, they pour water over themselves. Careful... you'll probably get wet (in more ways than one). I'd post pictures, but my jaw always drops and I drool like an idiot before I can even think about snapping photos. But you can see some great pix here: http://www.myspace.com/girlsoffuse

GirlBar -- this place is tired, unless you like the "Bridge and Tunnel" crowd (non-locals who don't know any better) and you can groove to bad music. The drinks are way overpriced for what you get, too. I'm not a big fan of this place, but I know people go.

I won't be at either place... I'll be at a really fun "Beers and Queers" party tonight. But, if you go out, have a great time!!!

Thursday, April 5

TONIGHT:

FUSE at Here Lounge, 696 Robertson -- 20-somethings groove to the sounds of Hip Hop, R&B and Dance by DJ Josh Peace

East/West Lounge, 8851 Santa Monica Blvd. -- Mix & mingle, have cocktails with the hip 30ish crowd that comes out to see and be seen.

Go to one, go to both -- they're practically across the street from each other in West Hollywood. Since East/West is a bit pricey, I suggest warming up with a cocktail at the Normandie Room on Santa Monica and Hancock -- can't go wrong with this old favorite!

Welcome home from The Dinah!

Yes, it's been almost a week, but it's taken me this long to recover. What a weekend! I won't bore you with another recap as I'm sure you were there, or your friends were there and keep talking about it, or you were there with your friends and you keep talking about it, or you've read the stories and seen the pictures.... well, you know.

Besides... I was too drunk to remember much anyway.

The thing I do remember is that I decided to finally do this ... create a blog about the way that we live,it's the way that we live and love (sorry, couldn't resist).

Since I'm an ol' shacked up lady who doesn't always have the time to keep every finger on every pulse, please help me by posting as well!
